What are Pad-mounted Transformers?

Pad-mounted Transformers are electrical devices that step down high-voltage electricity from a utility distribution system to a lower voltage for use in residences, commercial, or industrial facilities. They are mounted on ground level on a concrete or metal pad and are normally placed in a sealed, tamper-resistant metal enclosure. These designs enable safe operation in outdoor conditions and are well suited to environments where overhead lines are unable or undesirable. Underground power distribution systems are necessarily part of it. They are supplied by high voltage inputs from underground cables which are converted to a lower voltage which can serve buildings or facilities nearby.
