What is the Screened Separable Connector?

Screened Separable Connector is a highly upgraded electrical component of medium and high voltage rating that particularly suits underground and compact power distribution systems. It is a means of connection and disconnection of cables to such equipment as transformers, switchgear, and motors with complete insulation and shielding. The screened design guarantees that the connector is fully buried beneath a conductive layer, controlling the electric field and eliminating any chance of contact or arcing, resulting in increased operational safety. Made from high-performance materials like silicone rubber or EPDM there are excellent dielectric strength, flexibility, and give resistance to environmental factors including moisture, UV radiation, and chemical exposure. The separability of the connectors makes them easy to install, inspect, replace, etc., without the need for extensive disassembly that would be necessary in confined spaces for these application types.

Main Components

Front Plug:

Becomes one end of the cable, connecting from the equipment and creating a secure, conducted interface for efficient power transfer.

Rear Plug:

Usually used to link cables or other equipment in series with a reliable connection on the other end.

Rear Surge Arrester:

Protects the system from voltage spikes and surges to protect the network, providing for a safer and longer life of the electrical network.

End Cap:

Seals unused cable ends or connections, thus, preventing moisture ingress as well as maintaining insulation integrity.

Rear Cover:

It protects the rear plug and related components from environmental or mechanical damage.

Stress Cone:

It controls the electric field at cable termination to reduce the stress concentration and maintain stable insulation performance.

Resistor Element:

Added to control current flow, creating uniformity in electrical performance, as well as to protect from overheating to potential overvoltage.
