What is TVR Thyristor High-voltage Automatic Voltage Regulator?

TVR Thyristor High voltage automatic voltage regulator is an advanced voltage control device that regulates the constant voltage in high voltage electric lines. Thyristor technology is used by the regulator to provide very fast and precise voltage regulation by controlling the phase angle in the AC power supply. Thyristor-based systems are distinct from traditional mechanical regulators having no moving parts and therefore provide faster response times and lower maintenance requirements. It is useful in particular for environments where voltage stability is especially important, i.e., for industrial facilities, power plants, and the networks of large power grids. Composition Structure

A combined transformer, a series transformer, and a regulating transformer are also provided as part of the system. They help to stabilize voltage fluctuations throughout the grid. Athyristor-based contactless on-load tap changer is an integral part of the system where the voltage is regulated without any mechanical parts. Thyristors, thyristor trigger units, and thyristor protection units are part of the tap changer. The switching of voltage levels is controlled by thyristors, and trigger and protection units provide a safe and accurate operation.TVRs’ structure allows for these to quickly, and with minimal maintenance and very high operating efficiency, regulate voltage in an application that requires high voltage.

 

Working Principle

The thyristor voltage regulator uses a series transformer and a voltage regulating transformer as its working principle. The series transformer is connected in series to the power line: the series winding to the power line. For instance, the voltage-regulating transformer’s output is connected to its primary winding through a contactless on-load tap changer that is coupled to the output. The intelligent controller monitors continuously the output voltage and compares it with the one that is required. The controller detects a deviation decides the appropriate tap position and sends a control signal to the thyristor trigger unit which then enables driving the motor. This in turn turns on the appropriate thyristor and controls the turns ratio of the voltage-regulating transformer. Using the voltage-referring transformer, the regulated voltage is fed forward through the series transformer to compensate for the voltage variation. The size of the compensation voltage (△U) is dependent on the tap and polarity settings of the secondary winding on the voltage-regulating transformer, which is to say, the size depends – in this case – on the size and polarity of the transformer. Such a dynamic feedback mechanism maintains a stable output voltage in the presence of variations in the input power supply.
